On March 17 2021, this Stone Marker containing the declaration of the church as an Archdiocesan Shrine (December 11, 2002) was unveiled by H.E. The Most Rev. Jose S. Palma, D.D., Archbishop of Cebu, on the Opening Salvo of the 22nd Annual Feast of San Pedro Calungsod during the administration of Rev. Fr. Alvin Raypan and the rest of the SPFY Formators.

After the beatification of Pedro Calungsod on March 5, 2000 by St. Pope John Paul II, it became necessary to have a Shrine for the propagation of the devotion. Because of that, then Archbishop Cebu, Ricardo J. Cardinal Vidal, together with generous benefactors, embarked on the project and laid the cornerstone here at the Archbishop’s Residence Compound on April 2, 2001.

It was designed by Prudence Salutillo with some ideas from Msgr. Ildebrando Jesus Aliño Leyson (the first rector of the Shrine).
