Around the inner walls of the Shrine, just above the side doors, are the stone-crafted and gold-leafed Fourteen Stations of the Cross for the meditation on our Lord’s Passion and Death every Friday of Lent. Below the Stations of the Cross are also Fourteen Wooden Plaques om which are inscribed in parts the story of the martyrdom of San Pedro as recounted by his contemporaries and eulogized by the Pope and by the Archbishops of Cebu and Agana during the Beatification in 2000.
Still around the inner walls of the Chapel are twelve small gold-leafed Greek Crosses, ornamented with the Greek word “ikthus – fish” which served as a secret code by Christians during the persecution. The letters of the Word mean: Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.” The twelve crosses mark the spots that were anointed with the Chrism Oil during the consecration of the Shrine on December 11, 2002.
